How to teach your dog to find shed antlers.
North American Sport Dog Association (NASDA) is a rapidly growing scent sport competition venue for all breeds of dogs. NASDA was formed in 2016 to demonstrate the breadth of canine olfactory abilities. Trials are designed to resemble both working and competitive fieldwork. Teams can earn titles and championships showcasing their abilities in hunting and searching situations.
Searching for shed antlers is a growing pastime for hunters and hikers. The Shed Dog class is designed to emulate this field work. In the Shed Dog class, the dog is expected to locate and retrieve a naturally shed antler, although beginning dogs do not have to retrieve the shed antler.
In this webinar, an overview of the rules for all Shed Dog levels will be presented. The majority of the webinar will focus on how to train dogs to find and retrieve a shed antler. The objectives of this webinar include gaining an understanding of the rules and the titling requirements for the Shed Dog classes that NASDA offers and developing a training plan to participate in this part of NASDA. The Shed Dog class is fun for dogs, and it is a great opportunity for low impact fitness training.
