When we train for Scent Work, everyone starts with thinking about how to train the dog. Truly the dogs are the easy ones to train. What often gets lost in the process is the fact we need to train handlers to support dogs while they search, and ultimately how to create and cultivate synergy as a team.
In this series we'll discuss how from the beginning stages of Scent Work we should create drills that may be specific to one half of the team, but have implied tasks to train the both.
We'll focus on hide placements for the dog that drive search behaviors of the handler. How situational awareness of the handler supports the dogs ability to search. Finally, we will cover how to ensure that from imprinting to trial we build mutually supporting teams.
IMPORTANT: This webinar is the second in the series and will be focusing on the handler. The entire series will span three separate webinars:
- Training With The End in Mind; Focus on the Dog Webinar
- Training With The End in Mind; Focus on the Handler Webinar
- Training With The End in Mind; Focus on the Overall Team Webinar
