Aside from the fact that many nosework venues and trials sites require car crating, there are a great number of benefits of teaching our dogs to be happy and relaxed in their car crate. A dog who is happy and relaxed in their car crate is able to fully relax between searches, minimizing stress and maximizing their performance. But cars and being crated in the car may be something new for many teams new to nosework or the sport dog community. This webinar is for anyone with a dog who struggles being crated or contained in a car, or anyone with a new dog or puppy wanting to make sure their dog’s car crate is a happy place that they can rest.
In this webinar we will:
- Discuss why car crating is commonly utilized in nosework and the benefits of car crating as a skill
- Discuss how to help make sure your car crate is comfortable for your dog, including keeping it climate controlled in the heat or cold
- Discussing fear of the car, reasons this can occur, a basic overview of interventions for fear/anxiety related to the car and additional resources for dogs struggling with “car feelings”
- Provide a step by step training plan for helping your dog become comfortable with their car crate
