Very often, especially at the higher levels of competition, the first few hides seem relatively easy for your dog to pick off, but then there appears/occurs a hide that ends up taking a very long time to find. Often, this is the last hide.

We usually go through a litany of shenanigans to help our dog’s find that elusive hide, ranging from holding our dog’s closer to the source-area, narrowing our dog’s ability to range out away from the hide, facing or orienting to the hide, moving our position to try to block or disrupt odor to help our dog’s find it. Occasionally, people will wait until the dog is not ‘looking’ and pair the hide.

Can these tactics help our dogs find future, similar hides? What are some of the things gained by helping our dog’s find a difficult hide or solve a difficult problem?

In this webinar, Sue will show videos of dogs who are working hard to find an elusive hide, or struggling to solve a challenging odor problem. Sue will demonstrate some of the most common ways handlers work these hides, and offer insight and different ways of approaching these events.

WHAT OUR CLIENTS ARE SAYING

"Videos are so helpful!  And I love Sue's sense of humor!" Patty S.

"Evey aspect of it was marvelous" Timmie S.

"Sue's brilliant perspective and ability to communicate with her audience. Her unique sense of humor is always appreciated!" Sharee N.

"My two dogs are very different from each other. It helps me rethink my perspective. I'm going to incorporate The Happy Exit with my boy who tends to be 'enviro'." Gretchen G.

"I could have listened to Sue all night :) Sue has a marvelous way of expressing her views in a completely non-threatening and non-negative manner. She makes it easy to understand the point she's making and helps me to start thinking about how to employ the points she makes with my own dog." Pat R.

"Sue helped me to reframe my understanding of the goal of a search and why it's not always about finding that last hide but about prioritizing our dog's enthusiasm for the sport and the love of the hunt and problem-solving. I loved her emphasis on the value and importance of a Happy Exit. Looking forward to applying these principles at our next training class." Vickey G.

"I like that Sue thinks outside the box, pun intended. I started nosework back in 2011, taking classes taught the conventional way. I always questioned certain things, making me unpopular with the instructor. I started a new dog about a year and a half ago, mostly on my own. The Dog Driven Search book came out at the perfect time in the process for us." Catherine B.
