High-arousal dogs can easily become undone when faced with odor puzzles they cannot easily solve or when their arousal for the reward overrides their odor obedience. Further our instinct is often to try to quiet the search or tone down the drive which may only exacerbate the situation. This frustration can manifest as increased vocalization, hyperactivity or even quitting the search.
The problem is often based on lack of trust that reward will be delivered; lack of tolerance for delayed reinforcement; lack of practice in going from reward state back to working state; and missing foundation skills needed to solve a presented problem.
In this webinar, Vicky will discuss exercises and approaches to help these high-arousal dogs develop more resilience and focus so they can stick with the puzzle and not implode in the process as well as look at ways we can breakdown the process to clarify the steps to solve a variety of problems.
